meet Rafael “Fael” (Fell) Jenkins

Fael (Fell) Jenkins is a 2023 PBJJF Pan Am Black Belt Champion who started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) 12 years ago. He’d been a decorated high school wrestler and years later found a sport that kept him on the mats exploring combat well into adulthood. He breaks barriers in BJJ just like he breaks barriers in mindful movement education.

In 2018 he met Kristi and started training with her intensively to help rehabilitate his back. In one year Fael completely changed his entire pain experience. He had more mobility, resilience to injury, and less pain than ever before. It was all natural and through the process of mindful movement, breath awareness, and self study.

Fael trained with Kristi and received continuing education courses at Asheville Yoga Center to gain his 200hr Yoga Teacher Certification from Yoga Mouth Studio in 2020.

In 2016 Fael started training in Yoga as a way to support his chronic lower back pain. His doctors started talking about surgery to help him deal with the pain that was keeping him from being on the mats. Fael was looking for natural alternatives to medication and invasive procedures.

Not only is Fael a therapeutic Yoga instructor but he got his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt from Lee Synkowski at Baltimore Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in October 2020. He runs successful youth BJJ programs around the Baltimore area. His students are all levels and abilities. He’s also the founder of the famous Fael Game’s and innovates in the sport of BJJ to bring accessible and mindful training to the community.

Fael is raising a tribe of 5 wild kids. All the kids are training with him in both BJJ and mindfulness. He is also an urban farmer and working towards a fully sustainable year round garden for his family. He plays the piano and loves his time with family. He is a beautiful example of strength and vulnerability. His coaching and teaching style is creative, fun, and open to everyone.
